Have you seen any of his other films? I recently bought Rainbow Song and I think he was a producer but not director, it seems very good so far.

I've seen Love Letter, which is one of my favorites of his, as well as Hana & Alice, Fried Dragon Fish, Picnic, and Undo.
There are ones that I haven't seen yet, but I have in a box set that I got off of eBay once.
I hope to watch the rest soon.

A box set of Shunji Iwai movies ? I want it! Aha. He's directing a documentary on super group AKB48 (yes 48 members o : ) He also directed a music video for them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhEK1mxOm-I I don't like the song very much (it reminds me of a graduation song haha) but the video is nice. |

Swallowtail is a pretty awesome movie. It's a well thought out movie, with more content in it than a year's worth of Hollywood films. Also, don't forget, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3NF00p_sPgNew movie from Shunji Iwai. Filmed in Canada, called VAMPIRE. English, not Japanese. Do not be turned off from the title, this is not TWILITE. I'd tell you more about the movie, but I'll let you do your own research. That way, it'll feel like you found this out from me, but discovered it yourself. Also, looking at the youtube trailer, I can definitely tell it's an Iwai film. It feels... indie. Like, low-budget and cheesy, but has this hidden layer of depth that's there. I hope. |
